HYPOTHETICAL HAPLOGROUP. This hypothetical
haplogroup represents the allele values most common among our project
participants. When an allele mutates
away from this hypothetical value, it is highlighted with a color representing
the genetic distance from the established norm. Alleles usually mutate in increments of one step at a time. However, some alleles (464a, b, c, d, &
YCAIIa, b) often mutate in increments larger than one step at a time. So mutations of these alleles that are
greater than one step (two, three, four steps, etc.) are only counted as a
genetic distance of one and will be highlighted with yellow.
Color
Code: 00 = genetic distance from hypothetical
allele value is 1
00 = genetic distance from
hypothetical allele value is 2
00 = genetic distance from
hypothetical allele value is 3
00 = genetic distance
from hypothetical allele value is 4 or greater
Some
alleles have a tendency to mutate faster than others, which is taken into
consideration when calculating the probabilities of a most recent common
ancestor. These alleles are shown in
red.

Group A.
Four
participants display y-DNA values, which belong to Haplogroup
"I". The I, I1, and I1a
lineages are almost completely restricted to northwestern Europe. These would
most likely have been common within Viking populations. One lineage of this
group extends down into central Europe. All four of these people show almost
identical results, but their relationship to each other has yet to be
determined. There is a 95% probability that they share a common ancestor no
longer than 875 years ago.
