NOWHERE'STHEDEAL....

Elegant?
Who cares about elegant.
What works is more important.

As "they" say; "Get it working. Then worry about the bells and whistles."

As with most of the stuff on this site, when I talk about "work" I mean when I was still in the Army. Army work, as opposed to work now, in the civilian sector. Just to let you know. As if you cared.

I thought the index page was getting crowded.  So, as you can see from the index page, should you have seen it before I did this, I have moved most of my other pages to links off the main page.  I'll probably make them frame pages sooner or later (I'm lazy, but yes, I do know how to make frames, yes, manually.)

In fact, that brings up some points on design of web pages.  When I first started this mess I wrote everything by hand in HTML using Notepad or a similar text editor.
But Netscape (although Java makes the program crash, what else is new about Java?) has a built in WYSIWYG editor into Communicator, so why not use it?  It's much easier.  Yeah, I got Corel Office 7 (or MS Office at work) that changes word processor into HTML. I also have Front Page (Express with Win 98, or full version at work I can use; I always plan on using it on field problems or deployments, but I neither have the time nor the desire then . . .)  So why not use the tools if you got 'em?

On a related note, I suppose I could also put in all these links to other pages to get more traffic (Ooooh, MLM on the Web!  That works so well.)  I guess I could put in all sorts of nice backgrounds and animated gifs and frames and image maps and songs and MIDIs and ASP pages.  Yeah, so all 5 people that have seen this site can get bogged down.

The fact is the Internet is a really mostly a toy right now, used mainly for one of three things.  It's used for hobbies, gaming, and "sex".  (Myself, I prefer live women.  See item number 13 on  my SuperPowers page.)  However, I must of course admit that some businesses use the Internet for other things that are very lucrative (but mostly on their own intranets).   (Except for all these money bleeding Internet vendors that bleed money like there's no tomorrow.)  (I could have made that better, but why?)

Many times as is the usual thing with computers, the computerized solution is far more trouble than doing it manually.  Sure, things are headed towards the future, where the Internet will play an even more major role in day-to-day business - once we get the bandwidth.  And it's coming.  But for now, modems rule the world (well, at least at home).  (Especially where I am, here in the Arizona version of Podunkville.)  And if you have a "fast" connection at work (like I do have) during work hours it's very slow as everyone is reading their Hotmail and transferring these huge jokes and toys and applets.

Sure, you may talk about B2B solutions, but really, think about the plan for the "big 3" auto makers to implement a parts supply super powerhouse.  There's already talk of blocking it as being "unfair".  On the one hand, the Internet economy is transforming our country (and the world, same thing) and on the other hand, the status quo is being changed.  Of course those that don't know that their current good times are due to this paradigm change are scared of it and want to stop it.  Like they really can.  Just remember; people are basically stupid in that they love what's familiar even when what's familiar is being replaced by something better but different.  A something better that gladdens these people on most fronts, and they are too blind to notice they have a package deal that can't be cut up.  Sure, one day, they embrace change.  After they give up or run out of money.  Or get bypassed and have to conform.  A waste of resources by the masses.  Always has it been thus.

So, now you may know why I have everything in text, and no "bells and whistles" much.  I'm lazy. And it takes too much bandwidth.  I'll leave the huge pages filled with photos and Power Point slides for work where I can at least transfer a lot of bandwidth worth of stuff.  Well, really it's over the LAN (or the intranet, I guess).  Other than that, well, maybe one day "everyone" will have DSL or Cable speeds.  Actually, it's not a maybe.  We will all have mad crazy bandwidth one day.  A couple of years (if not already) for the major or semi-major markets.

Lots of interesting stuff going on with Fiber Optic and Wireless.

May we live in interesting times.
