VERNON REMEMBERED

Last Photo
This is the last photograph taken of Vernon; he died February 28, 1998 while undergoing surgery for an aortal aneurysm.

Vernon was a good husband and father and if he counted you among his friends, he was always available to help in anyway he could.

Two years can go by in a flash and yet at times his death seems long ago.  It's hard to image we haven't talked to him or seen him or borrowed money from him in two years.  There are memories of him everywhere we look, in the things he left behind, the things he did and the people whose life he effected.

He left his mark and we are all better for it.

BARN

The barn is completely yours now
I have seen your flash go by
I talk to the implements like they are your soul and expect an answer
In the hay is your sweat
and the gas, your blood
Every nail is a cell of your body
I feel like the guest but I am drawn to seek you out
The wood is still stacked
The truck has your gloves on the seat
Your fish are hungry and fat
I expect your hand on the key and my back
I hear your cough and rasp
Only the webs sway and wood pops
and the dust curls around my boots.

Susan A. Woodcock  August 1998

Dad, I miss you.
A day does not go by that I do not think about you.  I still see you at Francis beach flagging me down while I was swimming.  I still see you feeding my cat ice cream from your spoon. I still see you and mom sitting in our dingy rowing out to our sail boat.  And I still feel the pain, when Jeff told me you were gone.  But, I wanted you to know, Jeff and I are finally getting married. I wish you could be there in person.  But since you can't, please be there in spirit.  We'll keep you posted on the date.

Love you, and say hi the Grandma Wann.
Jude Woodcock,  the youngest, and most talented of your children.
