Gilbert Woodcock and his daughter Alice came from Lancashire, England. Gilbert was born in 1200 and Alice in 1218. They are the earliest Woodcocks I've come across and four hundred years later their family tree includes the Bennett family and the ancestors of Saloma. I don't know if Saloma is directly related to those medieval Woodcocks, but it's interesting to see how paths cross.

Here's an interesting clipping from the Republican Tribune from October 10, 1919:

Walter Lattimore had the very serious misfortune Wednesday afternoon to get the two middle fingers of his left hand cut off and the two others partly cut off. He and Alfred Woodcock were together on the J. F. Woodcock farm just as Alfred went to stick his ax in the top of a fence post Walter put his hand on top the post in the act of climbing over the fence. They got to town quick as possible in an automobile and Dr. Mattox attended the injury. The boy suffered intensely and will have a very badly crippled had for life.

And the same story from the Sullivan Democrat:

Walter Lattimore and Alfred Woodcock were repairing a fence and had their shotgun along with them. Their dog treed a squirrel and the former (Walter) put his hand on top of a post to get over the fence just in time to be struck by the ax the latter (Alfred) had decided to stick in the post and as a result Walter is minus the second and third fingers on his left hand, but he takes the accident quite cooly.
