LBS: Open Actions in Battle
Posted by David R Henry to LBSinfo mailing list, 6 March 2000
There's an interesting list of Battle/Open Actions playable outside a battle there, so I'd like to
go down the list, with corrections/comments.
First off, a reminder: the limitation on actions largely
comes to Battle actions themselves. If the action is a Battle
one, it either has to come from a card in the battle, or move
a card into the battle, if it's on a Hero-based card (a Hero
or a card that sticks to one) or a City Section. If the card
is a Battle action on something else (like a Holding) then you
need to have a Hero there to play it, unless otherwise stated.
With that out of the way, here's the list with my comments/corrections/
whatever:
Anbari Khalil
- She could only create the water on the City Section currently
being resolved if she's outside the battle, of course.
Katani
- Covered by the Open Actions in Battle section of the FAQ (OAB, from now on).
Sylmun, Takiyah, Sedjem, The Jinn of Eternal Beauty
Rahmid
- A nasty trick, but legal, yes.
Judgement
- By definition, of course.
Kumpal (1st action only)
- No. Kumpal has to be in the Battle to use his action.
Omal
- No. Again, unless the action specifically gets around being in
the battle (like Judgement) or involves moving someone into
the battle, you have to be there to use it.
Punjat
Sarna, Yuna, Afshan Jarr, Seff Seven-Fingers (Experienced)
Sibarah
Yaminah
- That's fine. She gets around having to be in the Battle
because she's moving a unit into the battle, which qualifies
for the two major requirements for actions in battle to be played.
Kara (exp)
Badr al Din
Hekau
Raghib
Baqiri, Shagala the Damned
- Dunno why you'd want to do them this way, but, yes, legal.
The Living Memory
- Sure. Have fun removing Berserk.
Dairya
Emiral
Hitomi Tashima
Julianna Barakah
- Sure. Remember that she cannot bring people in from your Home,
just from an as-of-yet unresolved battle to this battle. But
she can do it from Home.
Matishya, Shosuro Hametsu
- Both fine. Hametsu is a weird one to use in battle, though.
Catapult Crew (2nd action only)
- No, no, no. If a Hero-based card (a Hero or something attached
to them) wants to use their Battle action, it either has to
be in the battle, move someone (including themselves) into the
battle, or specifically allow it.
Flying Carpet (1st action only for obvious reasons)
Kali Ma Idol
- Nope. And I really don't think the Idol needs any more powering
up, do you?
Qaliraq's Mystical Lute
- Yes, both are legal. (The Open because it doesn't fall under OAB,
the Battle because it says so).
Staff of Sumarkhan
The Black Heart
- No. Heck, it even says opposing!
The Fallen Star
Ajbar ibn Kaleel
Afshin
- The water you gain has to go on the City Section currently being
resolved, of course.
Ashim's Rainbow Shield
Curse of Eternal Beauty
Hakhim's Seal
- And is usually cast outside of battle, too. In fact, it's usually
cast before battle begins.
Jinn of the New Moon
Kai
Sustain Life
- Sure. Dunno how often this is used.
The Seed of Qanon
- C'mon. "Target another Hero in this battle." You need the Sahir
there to even try to cast it.
The Star's Blessing
- Nope. Since it's a Battle, the Sahir has to be in the battle (or
use a Jinn of Reflection, to name another rarely used card).
