General Meeting held at the Presidio Child Development Center 5:30-7:30 PM

Attendance: Sandy Osborne, Jan Christensen, Susan Lyon, Betty Rose Allen, Manuel Wong, Meryl Glass,  Melanie Westfield, Lidia Baranda Larin,  Mark Mabry, Carol Husbands, Susie Shimizu, Kerrie Welsh, Jans Wan, Liz Winograd, Lygia Stebbing

 

bulletSandy provided information about the SFAEYC committees and meeting schedules:
bulletIntroductions were made around the table
bulletSandy began the meeting by reading the Mission Statement
bulletSandy reviewed her participation in leadership workshops and showed some samples of welcome packages for new members
bulletFrom the needs assessment we need to recruit new members from K-3 and students, plus work on member retention
 
bulletGeneral Discussion:
bulletMembership is readying a postcard to mail to all members with a new logo, if possible.
bulletMeeting minutes approval. Currently Jan e-mails the minutes to Mark to have them posted on the website. Any changes are to be approved at the next general meeting.
bulletThe board structure still needs committee chairs from Accreditation, Public Policy, Nominations and Elections.

bulletThere is a legislative breakfast on April 23, 8-10 am, Hiram Johnson State Building

bulletShall we make a donation from SFAEYC towards the breakfast? The main cost is food.
bulletA video about video games violence was shown as one of the issues is legislation regarding violence in video games
bulletCarol Husbands made a motion that SFAEYC write a letter encouraging endorsement of the legislation to be sent to all concerned parties
bulletLiz Winograd seconded the motion
bulletThe motion was voted on and unanimously approved

bulletCommittee Structure:

bulletMark talked about the CAEYC website and the new affiliate section. It is minimal but there is a link to the SFAEYC website
bulletThe SFAEYC site has meetings announcements and minutes, events of special interest, relevant information for membership, committees information and updates.
bulletThe contact information on the website can be personal or generic to be forwarded to the appropriate person
bulletThe committee will send monthly e-mailings, but approximately 1/3 of the membership has not provided e-mail addresses. Perhaps a quarterly newsletter should be sent via the mail or postcards to keep those members informed about SFAEYC
bulletBetty Rose announced that SFAEYC will be the spotlight article in the Sept CAEYC magazine. Articles are always being sought so we should brainstorm other stories that we could provide

bulletThe committees is planning to send a postcard to the membership and had questions about how to purchase and send cards

bulletThey are looking into ideas for a new SFAEYC logo
bulletShould we plan a new brochure and/or insert about membership
bulletDifferent locations for meetings could be considered as the membership grows
bulletGetting a Post Office Box was discussed and cost and location will be investigated. A board member must complete the paperwork involved.
bulletSusan Lyon made a motion that SFAEYC should get a post office box

bulletSFAEYC may cosponsor an event at the SF Main Library on April 24th as a part of the Week Of The Young Child . The event is a movement program for young children. Sandy reported that she has been in contact with the organizers and that SFAEYC may provide some funds toward the event.
bulletFuture ideas include holding a picnic for the membership and their families on June 5th. This was discussed and the feeling expressed by many attendees was that it may be too soon to hold a picnic. It was suggested that we need to define and organize the SFAEYC a bit more.
bulletSandy suggested and it was agreed that the next general meeting would focus on developing a strategic plan around planning events and programs
bulletJan has added our meetings to the Children's Council calendar
bulletSandy suggested that we try to get as many group calendars as possible to avoid planning conflicting events.
 
bulletNews:
bulletCPAC wants a representative from SFAEYC
bulletCommittee meetings will be scheduled in April
bulletThe next General Meeting will be May 5th
