PASTORAL LETTER
My Dear People of God,
We are called to be
“Apostles” of faith every day. We’re
taught that whatever we offer to our brothers and sisters we receive
ourselves. Even when people work against
us, let us have consolation in knowing that there is no reason for us to ever
do something negative to them. Prophet
Jeremiah reminds us that we believe in a God Who rescues the poor.
Jesus tells us all the
things we are fed by the world that are not true will be revealed. Illusions can’t be kept for ever. They wear out. The most essential thing is to be
ourselves. Jesus says to us not to worry
about anything because we are worth more than “an entire flock of
sparrows”. The grounding of our sense of
value comes from God Who is interested in every single thing that happens to
us. Although in life we encounter things
which take away our peace, we must have a joyful heart, singing praise to
God. We must believe in our value, in
the importance of who we are.
To live a Christian life
requires courage. As people of faith, we
believe that God will give us the strength to cope with whatever comes. Unless we can overcome our fears, we cannot
live a dignified human life. To be a
disciple of Jesus, the heart of a mouse will not suffice. One needs a brave heart. A complete trust in God, Who lovingly watches
over the life and death of even smallest and least valuable things.
May God bless you all,
Fr. Festus

NEXT SUNDAY
Join
in praying the Rosary at 6:20AM before Mass on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the
Marian Chapel.
Do you find yourself in
need of more patience, perseverance, faith, hope, and love of God and
neighbor? Do you realize these are just
some of the "fruits" of praying the Rosary? Our Blessed Mother waits with her arms full
of many graces to shower upon those who respond to her pleas to pray the
Rosary.
Persons willing to lead
the Rosary before the 8:00AM and 10:30AM Masses on Sunday should contact Fr.
Festus.
PERPETUAL
ADORATION: “Come to Me in My Blessed Sacrament, for in
Me you have My Real Presence. Even for
those who do not accept My Body and Blood in the bread and wine as My Real
Presence, I am still there. I gave My
life as a Divine Sacrifice for you in reparation for your sins. In Me you find your redemption. Never leave Me or you will be lost. Visit Me in My Blessed Sacrament to honor and
worship Me. Give Me thanks and give Me
your petitions. I love all of you so
much.” Direct all questions on Adoration
to Victor De Lapo, 335-1201.
SILENCE PLEASE!! Conversations and fellowship after Mass are
welcome in the Gathering Area, but please leave the church area a “quiet zone”
for persons who wish to stay to pray after

DIFFICULTY
HEARING DURING MASS??
We have portable electronic hearing devices available for the hearing
impaired and for those who have difficulty discriminating some word sounds. The
devices are at the back of the nave on a table near the steps to the choir
loft. Please use one if you have a problem. Let us know what you think of them.
The devices are far more effective than an amplifier that makes sounds
louder—they pick up the speech from the microphones and transmit it to the user
thus eliminating the reverberation caused by our cavernous building. They only
work with the frequency of our sound system and will not be helpful in front of
a TV or at a Movie etc, so please return them to the table after

Ladies, please plan to
attend Create
for Mission Day (sponsored by Church Women United) on Friday, July 18, 2008 at First
Presbyterian Church, 505 S. Dewey, from
9:30AM to 2PM A light lunch will be
served for $4.00.
We will be cutting and
sewing items (clothing protectors, pillows, lap quilts, and walker pockets)
that will be distributed to area nursing homes.
Bring your sewing machine or serger, and your sewing tools. If you would like someone to unload your
machine, drive up to the southwest Church entrance (in the parking lot) and
look for the man wearing a hat.
You do not need to be a
sewer to attend. We need cutters,
pinners, pressers and assemblers – there will be a job for everyone. We will, also, assemble hygiene and school
kits for Church World Service for distribution to third world countries
experiencing disasters.
Donations would be
appreciated for mailing the kits to Church World Services. Also, kits may be purchased - $11 for hygiene
kits, and $13 for school kits. Make your
checks payable to Church Women United and mail to Pat Brown,
