PASTORAL LETTER

My Dear People of God,

Today we celebrate the feast of Sts. Peter and Paul. The apostles were the first eyewitnesses to Jesus’ salvific work of redemption.  He empowered the first apostles, particularly Peter, to form, strengthen, and build the Church.  The early Church venerated these noble Saints.  The two great apostles, Peter and Paul, were martyred in Rome by Nero (54-68).  It is through them that the Church received its initial faith.  We ask for strength to remain faithful to their teaching and that we are called to lead and to preach the Word of God by the action of our lives.

Our parish should be the central part of carrying out Christ’s mission to the poor, elderly, disadvantaged, and the voiceless.  Everyone has a part to play in building up this church, the Mystical Body of Christ.  Today we are called to action to serve more our parish; the neighborhood, and the world.  Let every one try to name a concrete action one will take to better our parish daily.

May the keys of St. Peter, and the words of St. Paul lead us to the joy of that eternal home.  May also the intercessions of these Great Apostles bless me as I do God’s work in your midst.  I offer all the Masses this Sunday for all parishioners of St. John, and in a special way for myself as I celebrate my priestly anniversary and my birthday today.  I thank you all for the nice cooperation you constantly show to me so that God’s work may be fulfilled to its perfection.

May God bless you all,

Fr. Festus

Rom. 8: 9, 11-13; Matt. 11:25-30.

Join in praying the Rosary at 6:20AM before Mass on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the Marian Chapel.

Do you find yourself in need of more patience, perseverance, faith, hope, and love of God and neighbor?  Do you realize these are just some of the "fruits" of praying the Rosary?  Our Blessed Mother waits with her arms full of many graces to shower upon those who respond to her pleas to pray the Rosary.

Persons willing to lead the Rosary before the 8:00AM and 10:30AM Masses on Sunday should contact Fr. Festus.

PERPETUAL ADORATION:  “From every altar where the Blessed Sacrament is, He seems to speak to us all and say:  Why do you shun Me?  Why do you not come to visit Me, seeing that I love you so much and that it is for your sake I remain here in this humble state?  Of what are you afraid?  It is not to pass judgment that I have come to earth, but to do good and to save all those who have recourse to Me.  That is why I have hidden Myself in this Sacrament of Love.  I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.”  Direct all questions on Adoration to Victor De Lapo, 335-1201.

SILENCE PLEASE!!  Conversations and fellowship after Mass are welcome in the Gathering Area, but please leave the church area a “quiet zone” for persons who wish to stay to pray after Mass.  Your cooperation is appreciated.

PRAYER LIST:  We pray for all people who are listed in the Book of Intercession and for our parishioners who have asked us for prayers: John Ewbank, Leo Danel, Bud Shipley, Marie Puckett, Katherine Casey, Louise Connor, Teresa Anderson, Jim Hagan, Bill Creel, Esther Phelan, Virgil Horning, and Allyson Perry.

DIFFICULTY HEARING DURING MASS??  We have portable electronic hearing devices available for the hearing impaired and for those who have difficulty discriminating some word sounds. The devices are at the back of the nave on a table near the steps to the choir loft. Please use one if you have a problem. Let us know what you think of them. The devices are far more effective than an amplifier that makes sounds louder—they pick up the speech from the microphones and transmit it to the user thus eliminating the reverberation caused by our cavernous building. They only work with the frequency of our sound system and will not be helpful in front of a TV or at a Movie etc, so please return them to the table after Mass. If you would like to have a personal device we can order you one for about $100.00. Call Hank 333-0616.

MOVING?  MOVED?  CHANGES MADE?  If you are planning to move, or if you have changed residence, phone number, etc., please call the office, 336-4353 to let us know.  Thank you very much for helping us keep our parish records current and updated.

FREEDOM FEST 2008 HERO SEARCH:  Knights of Columbus, Kiwanis, and the City of Bartlesville have teamed up for the 4th of July celebration 'Freedom Fest 2008'.  We are looking for 'heros':  area police, fire, ems, volunteers that helped with the 2007 flood, as well as those serving in the military (particularly those in current service in the current conflict).

We are needing a picture of each person, brief background of each person and family, and if in military rank, what branch of service, and where served.

Anyone who believes they know such a hero is asked to send their name and contact information, along with details about a local hero (name, title or rank, branch of service or organization, plus a sentence or two about their service), to Sharon Hurst at donghu@earthlink.net or 414 SE Washington Blvd., PMB 289, Bartlesville, OK 74006.

For more information, contact Hurst at 336-0572.
