PASTORAL LETTER

My Dear People of God,

At times, all of us find life burdensome.  In life, there are all kinds of burdens—worry, responsibility, disappointments, hurts, guilt, bitterness, illness, a difficult relationship, divorce, addiction, self-alienation, and dislike for those who don’t go with our life rhythm or wishes.  Today, our Lord is inviting us to bring our burdens to Him and He will give us rest.  The penitential rite we recite at the beginning of the Mass that “I confess to Almighty God and to you my brothers and sisters that I have sinned in my own fault, in my thoughts, and in my words, in what I have done, and in what I have failed to do...”, should remind us that no one in this planet earth is perfect.

Therefore, we need to learn always to be humble and gentle.  Gentleness is one of the most necessary qualities in life.  To the gentle and the humble, Jesus promises peace of soul.  It is because we know so little about being gentle with one another, that we have so much trouble in our homes and in the world.  Proud and arrogant people do not bring peace.  They spread confusion and unrest by projecting onto others their own anger and frustrations.  Humble people disarm others and bring out the best in them.

Like a child, we need to be open to a power that is greater than ourselves.  May God help us to overcome our own little loads so that we may spiritualize the world in Jesus’ love.

May God bless you all,

Fr. Festus

Adult Ed Calendar

Adult Education – Summer Vacation. We will start up again September 7 @ 9:15—10:15 with a new brand. So far suggestions for the new name have been:  (1) Knowing Our Faith, (2) Christ in the World Group, (3) The Seekers, (4) The Truth Seekers, and (5) Focus on the Faith.

If you have another suggestion or a preference, please let Hank 333-0616, Joe 336-4353, or Pat 337-2118 know.

NEXT SUNDAY READINGS:  Is. 55:10-11; Rom. 8:18-23; Matt. 13:1-23.

Join in praying the Rosary at 6:20AM before Mass on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the Marian Chapel.

Do you find yourself in need of more patience, perseverance, faith, hope, and love of God and neighbor?  Do you realize these are just some of the "fruits" of praying the Rosary?  Our Blessed Mother waits with her arms full of many graces to shower upon those who respond to her pleas to pray the Rosary.

Persons willing to lead the Rosary before the 8:00AM and 10:30AM Masses on Sunday should contact Fr. Festus.

PERPETUAL ADORATION:  “Dear Children of My Eucharistic Heart, did you know angels surround the Tabernacle in your churches?  They surround the monstrance of Exposition and sing out their alleluias in praise and thanksgiving for this union of hearts—man's heart to God's Heart.  Graces come doubly to a soul who believes I am present even though not seen.  You will see Me with your heart.  What a joy!!"  Direct all questions on Adoration to Victor De Lapo, 335-1201.

SILENCE PLEASE!!  Conversations and fellowship after Mass are welcome in the Gathering Area, but please leave the church area a “quiet zone” for persons who wish to stay to pray after Mass.  Your cooperation is appreciated.

PRAYER LIST:  We pray for all people who are listed in the Book of Intercession and for our parishioners who have asked us for prayers: John Ewbank, Leo Danel, Bud Shipley, Marie Puckett, Katherine Casey, Louise Connor, Teresa Anderson, Jim Hagan, Bill Creel, Esther Phelan, Virgil Horning, and Allyson Perry.

We pray for our parishioners’ families and friends who have asked for prayers: Thang Lé, Sharon Nunn, Margaret McKay, Valerie Sue McKay, Treasure Reynolds, Jolene Owens, Missy Keller, Jason Keller, Eliseo Sauceda, Carol Ann Christensen, Jared Daily, Louis O'Connor, and Helen Harig.

DIFFICULTY HEARING DURING MASS??  We have portable electronic hearing devices available for the hearing impaired and for those who have difficulty discriminating some word sounds. The devices are at the back of the nave on a table near the steps to the choir loft. Please use one if you have a problem. Let us know what you think of them. The devices are far more effective than an amplifier that makes sounds louder—they pick up the speech from the microphones and transmit it to the user thus eliminating the reverberation caused by our cavernous building. They only work with the frequency of our sound system and will not be helpful in front of a TV or at a Movie etc, so please return them to the table after Mass. If you would like to have a personal device we can order you one for about $100.00. Call Hank 333-0616.

Helping St. John School:  Please remember to use the newspaper/waste paper recycling bins located in the west parking lot.  Also, we are still collecting Box Tops and Campbell Soup barcode labels.  The collection box is located in the rear of the Church.  All proceeds go to St. John School.  If you have any questions, contact Cindy Burke at 335-3744.

MOVING?  MOVED?  CHANGES MADE?  If you are planning to move, or if you have changed residence, phone number, etc., please call the office, 336-4353 to let us know.  Thank you very much for helping us keep our parish records current and updated.

THANK YOU FROM FR. FESTUS:  “I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for the wonderful food, cards, and cake for my Birthday Celebration and Anniversary after the 10:30AM Mass on Sunday, June 29.  I really appreciate all of the volunteers (The Knights of Columbus and Women’s Association) who helped make this a very memorable event.  A ‘special thanks’ goes out to Annette Walker for organizing this celebration.”

LOST AND FOUND:  Please be sure to check the basket in the back of the church for any items that you may have lost in church.

Mary Martha Outreach at 1845 W. 4th., needs volunteers to help hang clothes.  Every weekday morning, from 9:00 to 11:00, or M - T - W - T afternoon from 1:00 to 3:00.  Ask for Elaine or Susie.

CONCERN FOOD PANTRY NEEDS:  Today the Ushers will be handing out a list of needs for CONCERN.  Please take them home, search your pantry, or when you go to the grocery store please add a few of these items to your list.  Feeding the needy has become a great challenge for the organizations in Bartlesville.  CONCERN invites you to visit their building and see the devotion and the work that the volunteers do.  They also can tell you what you can do to help.  They need people to stack groceries, fill grocery sacks, talk to the clients, and do some of the interviews.  None of this takes a lot of education, only a open loving heart that gives you the feeling that you are truly doing the work of our Lord.  The best feeling of all!!!!
