PASTORAL LETTER

My Dear People of God,

Throughout the year, God continues to sow His Word in our minds and hearts.  He never gives up on us.  He waits patiently for us to accept His Word so that we can be fruitful.  God keeps on sowing His Word in our hearts even though He knows that much of what He sows will be eaten by the birds, or fall on rocks, or among thorns.

The Word of God comes to us as a friend.  It is a sign of God’s Love for us!  We all need the Word of God.  It gives us guidance in times of doubt, reassurance in sorrow, correction in times of foolishness, challenge in times of laziness and sloth, warning in danger, and hope in times of suffering and despair.  Let us ask our Lord for the fortitude so that we never become like those who are like the path on which the seed fell—negligent, lukewarm, and full of scorn.  Negligence and lukewarmness are manifestations of a lack of contrition and repentance.  On the day of baptism, the Divine Sower scattered His seed onto the soil of our soul.  God hopes we will receive His grace and bear fruit.  All men, whatever their lives may have been in the past, are able to become soil that is prepared to receive God’s grace.

God pours Himself into our souls in accordance with the degree of welcome He finds in us.  We can ask ourselves, do we check our relationship with God constantly in the light of the Ten Commandments?  Do we get rid of any noxious weeds through frequent Confession?  Let us all, as a community of St. John, tell our Lord we want to get better.  We can start Now, even the grudges we are holding.  Let the LAW OF LOVE reign in our lives daily as a sacrificial offering for all.

May God bless you all,

Fr. Festus

Matt. 13:24-43.

Join in praying the Rosary at 6:20AM before Mass on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the Marian Chapel.

Do you find yourself in need of more patience, perseverance, faith, hope, and love of God and neighbor?  Do you realize these are just some of the "fruits" of praying the Rosary?  Our Blessed Mother waits with her arms full of many graces to shower upon those who respond to her pleas to pray the Rosary.

Persons willing to lead the Rosary before the 8:00AM and 10:30AM Masses on Sunday should contact Fr. Festus.

PERPETUAL ADORATION:  “Come to Me each day to pray with Me and to Me, in front of the Blessed Sacrament, so you can be fed spiritual food of which you are in need.  Please try to do this for one hour each day.  Allow Me to heal you by being one with Me.  I love you.”  Direct all questions on Adoration to Victor De Lapo, 335-1201.

SILENCE PLEASE!!  Conversations and fellowship after Mass are welcome in the Gathering Area, but please leave the church area a “quiet zone” for persons who wish to stay to pray after Mass.  Your cooperation is appreciated.

DIFFICULTY HEARING DURING MASS??  We have portable electronic hearing devices available for the hearing impaired and for those who have difficulty discriminating some word sounds. The devices are at the back of the nave on a table near the steps to the choir loft. Please use one if you have a problem. Let us know what you think of them. The devices are far more effective than an amplifier that makes sounds louder—they pick up the speech from the microphones and transmit it to the user thus eliminating the reverberation caused by our cavernous building. They only work with the frequency of our sound system and will not be helpful in front of a TV or at a Movie etc, so please return them to the table after Mass. If you would like to have a personal device we can order you one for about $100.00. Call Hank 333-0616.

Helping St. John School:  Please remember to use the newspaper/waste paper recycling bins located in the west parking lot.  Also, we are still collecting Box Tops and Campbell Soup barcode labels.  The collection box is located in the rear of the Church.  All proceeds go to St. John School.  If you have any questions, contact Cindy Burke at 335-3744.

USAGE OF GATHERING AREA DISPLAY NOTE:  Please check with the office before placing any displays in the Gathering Area or distributing any pamphlets in the church for approval.  Be sure that your name and telephone number are on the back of the display so that we can return it to the proper group or person.  Thank you.

The Catholic Congregation of the Blind:  The Catholic Congregation of the Blind (CCB) is a religious community of blind men seeking to serve Christ in the Church, and the world at large through a life of prayer and work.  It was established in 1990 in Kerala, India by two young blind men, Fr. Wilson Thomas (founder) and Br. Xavier K Puthuparambil (cofounder).  Later, others joined and, with time, it got approval in the Archdiocese of Ernakulam-Angamaly (India) in 1995.

Applications for membership in this community are acceptable from single blind Catholic men who have successfully completed their 10th standard exam.  Individuals take first vows after three to five years.  After this it takes another five years before the final profession, during which they study philosophy and theology, and complete technical, Bachelors degrees or advanced studies appropriate to the mission of the congregation.  More information is available at their website:   http://ccblind.org/

ST. GREGORY’S ABBEY RETREAT:  Fr.
