Lent fasting & abstinence rules
Everyone 14 years of age or
older is bound to abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday, all the Fridays of Lent
and Good Friday.
· Everyone 18 or older, and under 59 years of age, is bound to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.
·
* On Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, only one
full meatless meal is allowed. Two other meatless meals, sufficient to maintain
strength, may be taken according to each one's needs, but together they should
not equal another full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted. When health
or ability to work would be seriously affected, the law does not oblige.
Yeah God! Well its Lent! It’s that time of year when we think of things to give up as a sacrifice. How about this year instead of giving up television, candy or video games ( Madden Football…..) we serve others. For example visit a nursing home and spend time with the residents or make dinner one night for your parents. Help out with the Religious Education program as a teachers
aide or help your brother or
sister with homework. Get the picture?
Enjoy Lent! Embrace Lent! BTW don’t forget that you shouldn’t eat meat
on Friday. So save a cow
or chicken I’m sure they would appreciate it! If you have any suggestions , comments or contributions to the newsletter
