The Book of Nub

Chapter 4

he Goddess delights in Darkness as well as Light, in silence as well as sound, in the transformation of death as well as the growth in life. 2The Goddess darkens like the Moon. 3She is the silence of mystery. 4She enfolds you soft within Her arms at every transition of Life to Death and Death to Life. 5For all meaning is rooted in contrast, and She is the Mother of Wisdom.

6She is the trellis upon which the vines of being grow. 7Everything is rooted in the same material and clings to the same structure as it reaches toward the Light of its Godhood. 8Her manna is your uniqueness discovered in your isolation from the Other. 9Her nectar is the oneness you find in your connection to, immersion in and embracing of the Other. 10You eat and are, in turn, consumed, "for all things feed one anotheri."

11Truly, there is but one polarityii: that between Self and Other, and any other duality is merely a lesson about that polarity. 12Love and Hate, Man and Woman, Light and Darkness, positive and negative electric charges are merely signposts on the path to Godhood. 13When you claim your Self, you claim the Universe.

14The Goddess sings:

"15Learn the lessons of the world you are making, O My Children:

"16You may hate and be hated,

"17You may kill and be killed,

"18You may oppress and be oppressed.

"19You will suffer, and you will heal.

"20Nevertheless and despite all suffering, you may choose to grow.

"21Amid the Blight you have made of My Garden

"You may choose to grow."

22Through the polarity of Self and Otherness you grow. 23As the Gods and Angels, Faeries and Demons have done before you, you grow. 24The tendrils of your imagination grasp the raw, spermy goo of possibility and some small piece of it is fashioned thereby in accordance to your Will. 25Thus, Magic is the essence of your unique manifestation on this Earth.

26You will be challenged. 27You will willingly let yourself be duped by Powers beyond your comprehension. 28You will make mistakes from small to grand in your striving toward the Light of your unique Otherness and Selfhood. 29The Goddess enfolds, cherishes and supports your stumble and striving towards the Light, for She would have nothing less than the Love of Her Equals. 30The Promise of Being is this: that every voice in the Chorus of Creation shall come to power equal to the Goddess Herself. 31Truly, every voice in the Chorus of Creation already has power equal to the Goddess Herself only they have not uncovered the Way of It.

iFrancesca De Grandis teaches in her Third Road® training the following two prayers which can be used as a meal-time grace or to address any of the objects of our mundane existence:

"I greet the Goddess: Thank you! I am in your service. Let us feed, for all things eat of each other."
"I greet the Goddess: Thank you! I am in your service. Let us be in joy, for all things feed one another."

iiI wrote this sentence while reading the Farrars’ marvelous work The Witch’s Bible. Clearly, The Witch’s Bible is a forebear of The Book of Nub if only because of the title, and the vasty vast majority of the material in the Farrars’ book is admirable. However, I do diverge from Gardnarian and Alexandrian thealogy by proposing the fundamental polarity of the Universe as being the potential between Self and Other rather than the potential between Male and Female.
