Transferring Your My Funds Database File to a New Computer

Did you know you can copy the database file used by My Funds on your old computer to your new computer? This is the file that has all the transactions you have entered while using My Funds on your old computer. Here are the steps.

  1. Locating the My Funds database file on your old computer.
    1. Start My Funds on the old computer.
    2. From My Funds, select "Database File Information" from the Tools drop down menu. The Tools drop down menu is on My Funds main toolbar between "File" and "Help."

      This tells you the name and directory location of the My Funds database file. The screenshot above is an example only. The name and location of your file may differ.
  1. Copying the database file from your old computer to a floppy disk or CD.
    1. Shut down the My Funds application on your old computer. You cannot copy the file while it is in use by the application.
    2. Go to the directory noted in step 1b above and copy the file to a floppy disk or CD. At this point you will have a copy of the My Funds database file from your old computer.
  1. Copying the database file from the disk to your new computer.
    1. Make sure the My Funds application on your new computer is shut down.
    2. Create a folder on your new computer for the purposes of storing your My Funds database file. (You can place the file anywhere on the hard drive that is most convenient for you. It does not have to be in the same location as it was on the old computer. For example, if the file was in the My Funds application folder, such as C:\Program Files\My Funds, you have the option of placing it back in the same folder or in a different folder you find more convenient to how you organize your data.)
    3. Copy the database file from the floppy disk/CD to the folder on your new computer.
  1. Setting up My Funds on your new computer to use the database file.
    1. Install My Funds on your new computer if you have not already done so.
    2. Start My Funds on the new computer.
    3. Select "Database Tools" from the Tools drop down menu.
    4. Click the "Browse for Existing Database" button.
    5. Navigate to the folder to which you copied the database file in step 3c above.
    6. Select the file and then click the Open button.
    7. Double click the name of your account on the Funds Browser screen to begin.

That is it. My Funds is now setup on your new computer to use the database file it was using on your old computer. Hence, you still have all the data you entered when using My Funds on your old computer.
