Bear World

The Yellowstone of today is not quite the same Yellowstone of yesterday.  There was a time when people were not  so aware of environmental issues.  The bears were part of the show.  Today the campfire program is not a sing-a-long but is more of an environmental class complete with propaganda on how letting the park burn down is  part of natures plan.  Yellowstone has changed and is changing all the time. During our trip to Yellowstone we saw not a single bear.  I'm kind of glad we didn't though. On one hike we were going to take the trail was closed, because a Bear was chowing down on a Buffalo.  I would just as soon not come upon a bear in the wild while it is eating a buffalo.  What would you say to the bear ? "Excuse me while we hike through, you just go ahead and eat your Buffalo, don't mind us!"

A few miles (like about 100) from the entrance to Yellowstone Park is Bear World, where one can see bear and wolf  from the comfort of your own car just like the Yellowstone of olden days.

Bear world has wolves  too, this one only had three legs.  I was surprised by  how large the wolves  really are. I would not want to meet a wolf on a trail in the middle of nowhere.  Maybe I should take a gun with me the next time I go hiking, these guys are scary.
