How It All Began

Once upon a time, in a gaming company office far, far away, a lawyer met his match. 'Tis not a fairy tale I tell to you, but the sad, sad story of the fall of the greatest vigilante of our time. Yet from the ashes arose yet a new day . . . . the dawn of Stick Figure Theatre. Hearken to the tale, as the mighty Harbinger of Justice falls before the wrath of the All Powerful Editor of Hero Games . . . . . Editor picks up phone and dials number

Editor: Hello, Steve?

Steve Long: Hi, Bruce.

Editor: I've got great news for you. The sales figures from Dark Champions are in. It's doing well, much better than we expeced.

Steve Long: That's great, Bruce!

Editor: We have gotton some negative comments though.

Steve Long: That's only to be expected, I suppose. What were they? Was my discussion of the law too technical? Weren't there enough weapons? Or gadgets?

Editor: Er, well, actually, it has to do with the Harbinger of Justice.

Steve Long: The Harbinger? What's wrong with him?

Editor: He's just too powerful. I've talked it over, and you're definately going to have to tone him down a bit.

Steve Long: I don't understand. He's not meant to be played as a Player Character. He's meant to be used as a plot device by the GM. He's a goad, an ally who has strayed too far from the light, he's . . . .

Editor: Got too many Knowledge Skills! I mean, look at this boy, Steve! He's better known by the Skills he doesn't have, than the ones he does!

Steve Long: The Harbinger is a very old character, Bruce. I've been playing him for years. He earned every one of those experience points.

Editor: Nope, doesn't cut it. You're just going to have to hand over those experience points, bub. They'll be handed out to villians, er, character write ups more worthy. In fact, I've got one in mind now. Yes, those Experience Points will be very useful in my Master Plan . . . .

Steve Long meekly: What Master Plan?

Editor: Never mind, bub. Enuf said. Now trim that Harbinger down before you get a dose of the Mighty Ping Pong Ball gun!

Steve Long cringing: Yessir.
