I've gone through and fixed the broken links. Several sites have disappeared, apparently for good. Others have moved. Some sites have moved, but have been removed from my links site because they are on the Circle of Heroes webring (see bottom of this page). I am keeping the list of my favorite CoH sites, mostly for my own quick use (since Theala's Page is the default on my browser, naturally). I've added some new links to the Other Hero Home Pages, as I've found several Hero related websites that are not on the Circle of Heroes Webring.
Don't forget to check out the Other Hero Home Pages. Those sites are NOT on the Circle, but many still contain outstanding Hero information.
Shelley Mctyre maintains probably the best source material for the Champions Universe available on the Web: The Unofficial PRIMUS Page is a great source for those of use who use PRIMUS. This page gives you a feel for the organization from those who have served in it. A way cool site. You should also check out her new Viper Net, and her Champions Material Index Shelley's also got quite a bit of source material from her own supers games, and her PBEM games available for a look see--it's very well written and makes good inspirational material. Shelley is also the new home for the Red October File Libraries. Definately a must see site!
Bob Quinlan, sysop of the semi-official Hero bbs, has shut Red October down. It is the passing of an era, and RO will be missed. It was the home for Hero discussion long before the Internet became so popular, and AT&T collected many of my long distance dollars before I got an ISP account. Best of luck Bob, and thanks for the memories!
Dave Mattingly is a regular contributor to the Haymaker! APAzine. His PowerPoint Home Page contains many articles on using Hero Powers in new and interesting ways: everything from Teleportation to Time Manipulation to Big Guns. Well worth a look if you need to spice up the special effects of your campaign.
Bob's Original Hero Stuff contains some
wonderful articles on mult-thread serial stories, diceless combat,
a new martial arts style, Fantasy Hero spell colleges, has adventure
writeups for when you're too tired to make your own, characters,
and much more! A definate must for the GM.
Mike Surbrook's Stuff has some good material if you like injecting a little anime into your gaming. He includes character writeups, Ancient Firearms, GURPS to Hero conversion rules, random tables for Master Villain plots, new martial arts styles, and several anime based campaign universes. If you like anime in your game, this is the place to go for ideas.
The Hero Pulp Page has some good write ups of weapons, vehicles, package deals and adventures for your pulp era campaign.
The Circle of Heros maintains a list of all active sites in the Webring. It's easier than going thru the Circle one site at a time if you want to see what the Circle offers. Most of the sites are fairly decent, and have something to offer, especially if you're looking for character writeups or background material. I recommend taking a look at the entire Circle.
There are other associated resources available for the Herophile.
One of them is Aaron
Allston's Home Page, home of the author of Autoduel Champions,
Lands of Mystery, and Justice Inc.
Of course, Theala's Page would not be complete without a link to the new official Hero Games Homepage. The Hero Guru's have recently updated this page after almost as long a hiatus as mine--it looks really spiffy. For those desperately seeking the Ultimate Martial Artist, it is now available there in Hero Plus Format.
Blaize O'Glory's Epitath Home Page isn't Champions related, but it's a hoot. Next time a PC or villain bites the dust, let the whole world know!
You might also try David Lightfinger's Home Page. David Lightfinger, also known as David West, is one of the co-author's of Murderer's Row. His Page contains character write-ups and other material related to the ill-fated Assassin's Directory.
Richard Loritsch's Hero Page contains an interesting article on Earthquakes from the Haymaker! APA.
Gold Rush Games has sold San Angelo: City of Heroes to Hero Games, but is still worth a link.
JP Brannan maintains J.P.'s Champions Campaign World for his campaign setting, complete with character writeups and background description.
The Atlas Home Page . Atlas Games published three licensed Hero adventure supplements in the 1990's: Dystopia, Foxbat Unhinged, and Blood Fury. They no longer publish anything for 4th edition, nor does their home page have any current reference to old Hero related products. But you never know . . . .
The Sanctum contains a number of discussions on rules variations, including an alternate Throwing Rules: worth looking at if you're frustrated with the linear way the official rules work. The article on Energy Blasts and TK, and the one on Power Advantages are also well worth the time.
Jeff Barrett's Games Page has some great PDF files of character sheets and combat sheets that are great for a GM looking to manage lots of villans and agents in a large combat. Also included is an alternate hit location table. Jeff has updated the page and the URL, so double check your bookmarks.
I still don't know what happened to Doug MacDougal's
Hero System Page, which had errata and conversion systems for
Marvel and DC Heroes. However, I did find he put up a
Hero
HTML Generator, a very nice Java script which will convert
your keyed input into an HTML character sheet. Very nice, and
worth a look if you want to make characters available on the
Web. Word of warning: you need the latest build of Netscape to
use this:early builds of Communicator don't work. I don't know
how well other browsers handle this, tho I believe is is IE4
compatible.
George Rubin's Roleplaying Pages have scenarios, plus info and add-ons for using the HTML Generator, plus a Java die roller, and the Hero Combat Applet.
A much expanded and detailed version of the Random Mutant Generator from Sean Fannon's The Mutant File in Tim Larson's Page.
Deejay's Unofficial Champions Character Write-up Page has a Ton of characters, mostly by Sam Bell. It has been moved to Shelly McIntyre's Home Page.
Tim Larson's Great Net Book of Real HERO's ftp site has more Champions comic book characters.
Hero
Machine:
is a program that lets you create
character sketches for your favorite heroes. Can be run live
from the website, or you can download the program.
Derek's
Champions Page mostly has information on his own campaigns.
However he is also posting his 'zine from the Haymaker! APA
(Rhino Rhritings), and has what may be the most extensive and
up to date list of every supplement for the Hero System every
published by any gaming company--including a few you may not
have thought of!
The
Broadsword Campaign Page has some interesting Talents, Advantages,
Limitations, and Disads for the Hero System. I've seen many of
these used elsewhere, but here's a written resource for you.
The Dungeon Hero site has a bestiary and other
fantasy related material. Has not been updated in a long while,
but may still be useful.
Miller's Post Apopolyptic Home Page has
some material for converting AD&D's Gamma World setting to
Hero System.
The DEMONLAIR Homepage, maintained by the author
of DEMON, contains some material that was either cut or not finished
in time for publication. Interesting, if you like DEMON.
Ezine
is a web-based bi-monthly Hero fanzine which publishes regular
articles on the Hero System. It's a pay magazine, but offers
sample articles every two months. Check it out!
There are some sites out there that any gamer should look at regardless of their favorite system. Here are links to a few of these:
The Banning Dungeon's and Dragons and Role Playing Games in the Post Columbine Era Page has historial information and references regarding the recurring movement to ban RPGs. Includes Michael Stackpole's infamous "Pulling Report", blowing apart Pat Pulling's Bothered About Dungeon's and Dragon's arguments. Any serious gamer must read this one file, if nothing else!
You know, for some reason, a lot of gamers I've met are surprised to hear that lots of women game too. I usually get comments like "I wish I knew some serious women gamers!" as in women gamers who are not there just because their boyfriends are. You'd be amazed how many serious female gamers are out there if you look at the links below:
Hazel's Women in Gaming Page: devoted to bucking stereotypes of females gamers.
The Women in Gaming Homepage and Webring offers addiitional resources and discusssion areas for men and women.
Here are some links to my favorite comic links on the web.
The Flash: Those who ride the lightning: The best Flash site on the Web, and one of the best fan sites I've ever seen, updated on a fairly regulated basis.
Powerheroes: an online comic with upcoming RPG rules.
Legion of Superheroes Resources Page: Good jump off point for LSH material.
The Unofficial Who's Who in the DC Universe: Great info site on DC characters.
CrossGen Comics: CrossGen is publishing the most exciting line of comic books out there, and they've attracted some high level talent like writer Mark Waid and artist George Perez.
DC Comics: Next to CrossGen, my favorite publisher of comics (can't you tell?)
Font Links There's nothing like having good fonts to spruce up character sheets or handout. Here's a list of some good font resources.
The Sci Fi 2000 site: recently took over a large site of sci fi fonts.
