| 7:30am - We are in Massachusetts now. Well, we've been here since 11:30 last night. The place we slept at is Holiday Inn. Dad had asked for a room with two queen beds but since he was a member of some club they automatically upgraded to a suite and it had a king-size been and a little couch bed. Guess who got the couch bed! Oh, well. We are fixin' to go to the Basketball Hall of Fame. | ||
| 9:30am - They finally let us into the Basketball Hall of Fame. The brochure says they open at 9:00am but the brochure is wrong. This place is really cool! They have so much stuff! We took pictures next to Tim Duncan's cardboard stand up model and Larry Bird's statue and Michael Jordan's and David Robinson's memorabilia. We walked in the footsteps of Bob Lanier (size 22), shot hoops at several baskets they had set up, and tried to reach the point where Michael Jordan can touch. Rachel even got to slam dunk the basketball on the simulation machine and view the Olympic History Exhibit. We had an all around good time. We recommended this place. | ||
| 11:05am - We are on our way to Boston on the turnpike. The tree here are huge! They are so pretty right now, the must be gorgeous in the fall when the colors change. We keep seeing the quaint, New Englandy houses. One had a clothesline out the second floor window - the kind that you pull in from a wheel and pulley. The temperature is great. | ||
| 12:10pm - Twenty miles from Boston (says Dad). There are already some big buildings and a Burger King but still lots of big trees. I think they are amazing! I can't stop looking at everything. On the sides of the road, there are big, jagged, reddish rocks with wild flowers growing out of them. | ||
| 12:30pm - We're in Boston. I love new cities. In Boston, we walk the Freedom Trail and see the First Church in Boston (the King's Church), the Paul Revere house, the USS Constitution and more. There were so many things it was hard to take it all in. We also saw the gravesites of Samuel Adams, John Hancock and Paul Revere and the site of the Boston Massacre. Lot's of history and lots of walking as we followed the convenient red line from site to site. | ||
| The best place along the Freedom Trail was the USS Constitution (one of the few free places) and the nautical museum next to it. And we had a great ride on the Harbor Trolley - $1 takes you back across Boston harbor to downtown. | ||
| 5:30pm - We leave Boston and head south towards Cape Cod. We never hit the traffic jams that we feared. When we get to Plymouth we take an unplanned excursion to the coastline and what do we see? The Plymouth Rock. It was really cool! We also saw the Mayflower II, a replica of the original. We decided to eat there and found this little restaurant right on the ocean side called Bert's Cove that served sea food. We had clam chowder, delicious bread, lobster bisque and fried crab cakes. All was good! Then we drove through a few more villages before heading back to the highway. | ||
| 9:01pm - We are on Cape Cod and almost to Eastham. We find our hotel, the Town Crier. The people are nice to have the room open for us since we arrive late. It is really funny because absolutely nothing in our room matches: the bedspreads are brown with beige flower patterns, the curtains are black with primary colored lines swirling around them, and there is a painting of a lady and a bunch of parrots on the wall. Well, the good thing is at least there are two real beds, not hideaways. Good night. | ||
