Yosemite National Park - Getting There  return home

To get to Yosemite, we flew from Austin to Sacramento on Southwest Airlines, rented the "Silver Bullet" and drove from Sacramento to Cedar Lodge which is located just 6 miles from the Arch Rock Entrance.

Our journey from Sacramento to Yosemite was quite eventful. Tom had the route well mapped out using Yahoo Maps. Head down I5 South to Stockton, switch over to State Hwy 99 towards Merced then State Hwy 140 through Mariposa and on the the Cedar Lodge near El Portal. Easy enough.

However, right there on Hwy 99 is a huge California State Highway sign saying Exit Here for Yosemite! Looking at our map, the exit 108/120 looked much more direct. Forget it! While the start was interesting, traveling through numerous citrus and pistachio groves, when you neared the Yosemite Area, you had to take what has to be one of the most winding roads in America. It's like 50 miles of slow travel and the trip took 1-2 hours longer then the mapped route. So trust yahoo on this one!

On the way back home, we took the correct route and were amazed at how fast the trip went. We arrived at Sacramento early enough to take a side trip to "Old Sacramento," an area of shops and museums along the banks of the Sacramento River. We had lunch and strolled around and shopped. Very nice.

Along the way to Yosemite, Tom took a wrong turn which took us to the quaint village of Sonora in Tuolumne County. Here Tom was able to show Jill and Rachel the Title Company and the County Courthouse build (below) where the software that Tom wrote (halFILE) is used.

We traveled in the "Silver Bullet."
