Democratic Research EMail Lists - Technical Info

Mailings to my Democratic EMail list are intended to provide party leaders with information necessary for making immediate comment to the press, and to help them provide effective leadership on current issues. Sometimes there's good news, and sometimes there's other news. Many areas of interest are included... (If you should receive an EMail that is not of interest - use the 'delete' key, and it will go away.)

This EMail is usually addressed to "YOU and a few other TEXAS DEMOCRATS" - - or to "YOU and a few others."

From time to time additional EMail addresses, not on a regular list are included - - depending on the subject of the item. Receipt of one, or a few pieces of EMail addressed this way does not mean your address is on a regular EMail list.

To change your EMail address, or to request other list maintenance, on the EMail list, use the "Mail To" utility below.

The Democratic Research Yahoogroup

Copies of the items sent to the EMail list are also posted on the "Democratic Research" Yahoogroup. To join, Click here:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/DemocraticResearch

It is recommended that you select the delivery option of "No email. Don't send me email, I'll read the messages at the Web site." You should also select the message format option "Do not convert to HTML."

There are technical limitations with Yahoo groups that are not present with regular delivery of EMail. This new, additional method of message delivery is intended to circumvent censorship of EMail by inferior Internet Service Providers, who charge their customers for full Internet service, but deliver something less. (I frequently receive 'bounce' messages from one ISP, with a statement indicating that EMail from Southwestern Bell servers has been blocked from delivery by their system.)

Additional Information

Use a compatible browser: Some of the EMails provide only a universal resource locator ("URL"), beginning with "http://" - so you may easily check an item. For this, it is advisable to use the Netscape Navigator, Microsoft Internet Explorer or an equivalent. These browsers will automatically underline the URL. Clicking on an underlined URL will automatically open your browser and direct it to that location. (Older, non-compatible browsers may require that you enter the URL manually, which can be an exercise in mental torture - or you may be able to copy and paste a URL into your browser.) If you save the EMail, be aware that the content of a URL may expire or change, over time, and you will receive an unfamiliar item. If this happens, try searching the archives of the referenced web page.

Speed of operation: Some of the EMails include both a URL and various HTML programming codes from the referenced page. With this, your browser will automatically reproduce the source, without requiring you to click on a URL. Where the images you receive are transmitted from the original Internet source, they are not included in the EMail. The speed of the appearance of the item, therefore, is dependent on Internet conditions between the source, and your location, at that time. (It might take even longer for an image, sent entirely by EMail, to appear on your screen.) Some incompatible, outdated browsers reproduce unprocessed HTML programming codes, instead of using them to access the source. For best results, use an up-to-date browser / mail utility, like the Netscape Navigator or Microsoft Internet Explorer.

Does an attachment hang? Try using the 'Reply' function. This may allow you to view the content in a 'compose window.' When finished, use the 'X' at the top right hand corner of the window to exit, rather than to send a reply.

For additional technical information, contact me in person, or by EMail. I hear from many Democratic EMail recipients regularly.

HOW TO BE ADDED TO THIS LIST: This list is not for everyone. Send an EMail to me at decision@sbcglobal.net, providing information on your official position in, or activities in, the Democratic Party. Please comment on the kind of information that will best serve you. My lists are not limited to residents of the State of Texas.

I also run an EMail list for those who research the events surrounding November 22, 1963. This effort was the subject of a 1999 "JFK New Frontier Award" for "contribution of New Evidence and Furthering the Study of the Assassination of President John F. Kennedy," presented at the 1999 November in Dallas Conference. The list includes addresses on every continent except Antarctica.
