All the News that Fits, We Print

A combination of personal vacation, business travel, work deadlines and a brief onset of spring fever lead to a gap in the club’s newsletter.  So, we get treated to a rare DOUBLE FEATURE.   The club completed their first road trip, to Monterey.  This was followed up by a trip to Deer Ridge for the April outing.  Focus now turns to the May Gold Country Triple Play, May 18, 19, 20.  Sign up sheets are due to Tom Baker by May 9. The weather has turned, summer is here (I think), let’s go golfing!

Upcoming Tournaments

This year’s campaign began with the highly successful Silverado North Tournament.  But don’t forget to sign up for these rapidly approaching events.  Tom Baker has made it easier than ever to attend.  He accepts e-mails, phone calls, voice mails, completed sign up forms mailed directly to his house or even an in person chat.  Mr. Fosdick has added a new link on the Web Page, http://pages.sbcglobal.net/trfosdick/Signups.htm. for current signup status.  We will try to update this list on a weekly basis up to close date.  Email and verbal commitments are OK, but the printed signup form with check is better, http://pages.sbcglobal.net/trfosdick/1st%20Qtr%20Apps%202007.htm

Emails, verbals and forms with checks are all commitments to play and pay.

Located in quaint Valley Springs, La Contenta Golf Club is nestled in the California Gold Country Foothills. Early settlers to the region called the area just south of Valley Springs “La Contenta”, or the “valley of contentment”, for its serene beauty and tranquil setting.

Opening for play in 1974, La Contenta Golf Club fast became a favorite destination for Northern California golfers.

In 1986, its present owners, P.G.A. Professionals Rod Metzler and Curt Hammond, purchased the Club. Under their direction the course and accompanying facilities have undergone constant upgrades and improvements. A full service clubhouse overlooking the course offers a restaurant, lounge, and banquet facilities for up to 200 guests.

The Golf Shop offers the latest in equipment and apparel, and our trained staff of Golf Professionals will enhance your experience. The 18-hole championship course requires accuracy and a confident touch on the quick greens. The rolling terrain and superb playing conditions create the perfect combination of challenge and excitement. La Contenta is just a short drive form Sacramento and the San Joaquin Valley. Honored by Golf Digest, La Contenta remains one of Northern California's best public golf courses.

President’s Corner

Steve Spiva

Hello club members.  It was a wonderful weekend in Monterey.  The weather was lovely, the food and drinks at Roy's provided by Mo was outstanding.  Looking at my scores or lack there of, I would say being with everyone on Saturday evening was the highlight of the trip for me. Tom Baker did an outstanding job of running the tournaments, we got off on time and finished in a timely fashion.  It was a nice visit to Rancho Canada, I had not been there for some time.  Know I remember why I don't go there often, that back side with all the tight tee shots kicked my rear.  It was great to see Stumpy again, appears he is living the good
life in Oregon.  For those of you who missed him he committed to coming out for the Silver Country event in May so come on out and play.  The weekend did provide a few opportunities to remember shots made from the
trees by Ed Trotter, I for one really missed Ed, I know my wife mentioned it several times.  I encourage every one to get out and play, enjoy life, and enjoy spending time with good friends.  I hope to see you all in Brentwood this month.

President’s Corner

Steve Spiva

For those of you who missed the tournament out in Brentwood, it was a fine day.  Once I actually realized which course we were playing and found my way there I realized that I was going to play a new course for
me.  It was a very interesting course, not very long so you had to think your way around the course.  The greens were firm and the wind was up a little creating hard to hold greens.  I think Dr. Evil did the pin placements, they obviously didn't know BGCSF was coming to play as these
pin placements created slow play on the greens.  It was a rough day as I lost money to Dickie Marsh, this does not happen much in ones life time so I have to question his extensive handicap.  If you did not get a chance to play at Deer Ridge I think it's worth making the trip.  The price was OK and the course is interesting enough.  If they had a real
driving range it would be better.  If you decide to play, go to the course across the street, Shadow Lakes and hit balls there first I hope to see you all at the Silver Country trip.  Lodi's one redeeming quality is Dry Creek so don't miss it.  The hills are alive and well at La Cantenta as is the water on the course.  Castle Oaks it not to be missed, if you can only play one course this it the one to play.  Bring a friend, it's a great Boy's trip. For those members who have been asking at the tournaments about my wife's climb of Mt. Shasta in July to raise funds for the Breast Cancer
Fund, I have attached the Web Site information for your convenience.

Membership Corner

The bell club currently has 56 active members for the 2007 season.  All members are invited to participate in the 2007 State Telco Tournament.  State Telco qualifying will be the low six differentials from the ten tournaments between Poppy Hills (3/23) and Lakeridge (7/21).

Tom Baker is working on the possibility of having two joint tournaments with the East Bay Bell Golf Club to increase interest and to build some camaraderieLook for details in future newletters.
