Day 15 - January 22
Every day is a new day
and to every thing there is a season and a purpose.
Heather met with our case manager at the insurance
company and it seems everything is falling into place for Stephanie's continued
recovery and rehabilitation. Once she has spent time in the Multi Trauma Unit
(MTU) at Swedish Hospital and has reached both physical and neurological milestones,
the medical team at Swedish and the insurance company will coordinate her transfer
to the Texas NeuroRehab Center in Austin.
Originally we had anticipated a transfer to TIRR
Hospital in Houston as her next inpatient facility, but the insurance company
and many of her doctors are now recommending Texas NeuroRehab.
Often times we are asked "how long".
No one really knows. A few days ago the spine surgeons said 9-12 months for
spinal cord healing (that is, it will be as good as it will get within the next
12 months and may not be a full 100% recovery) and the neuropsychologist, physiotherapist
and neurosurgeons anticipated 6-24 months for neurological recovery. Only the
Lord knows what is truly in our futures and we will continue to pray for faith
and the ability to take one day at a time.
Bill remains in Denver with Stephanie while Heather
is tending to matters in Harlingen (we will swap places on Tuesday). He reports
that Stephanie is in good spirits and continues to make progress. She hasn't
started physical therapy yet pending a good night's rest (she had a very loud
roommate last night and her nightly fever). Dr. Ibrahim and Dr. Thomas say her
incisions are looking good and Dr. Balazi is amazed at her continual recovery
- God is truly at work here. Pastor Jim Perkins visited her again yesterday
and that always seems to lift her spirits.
Even though Stephanie is no longer in critical
condition, please continue to pray for her and email her. Now comes a time when
her emotional and spiritual strength will become very important to her continued
progress and recovery.
Again, we thank the Lord for you and for all
you have done and continue to do. God Bless.
