Day 61
- March 8
Psalm 126:3
"The LORD hath done great things for us." ...and we are grateful.
Can you believe it has been 2 months?
We
visited with the hand specialist (the second ortho doc) on Friday and he felt
as though the break in Stephanie's left hand is healing well. She will continue
to feel discomfort and experience some swelling until it has completely healed,
but he saw no reason for pinning, casting or a brace. Praise the Lord.
A third ortho specialist will review her xray
films this afternoon in preparation for Wednesday's appointment. He is the office's
multi-trauma specialist and we were told by the first ortho doctor last Thursday
that he will probably assume management of her orthopedic care and will be the
one to assess her hip repair, since that is his also his specialty. We will
see him late in the day on Wednesday. A fourth ortho specialist won't be needed.
We will continue to do physical and occupational
therapy at home until her rehab doctor gets the okay for her to begin walking
therapy from the ortho team. Today that date remains to be sometime in April.
Nevertheless, she continues to gain strength and flexibility each day. Pain
is still manageable and she has good and bad days, like we all do.
Her nights have been good and she has been able
to rest since she has been home, save a couple of nights plagued by bad dreams,
and she is eating well. We're doing all we can to ensure proper nutrition, with
lots of calcium and protein per doctor's orders, for proper bone fusion and
healing. It is good to have her home again. God is good.
This was a good weekend. Saturday she spent 2
hours on the front porch with Bill, Rob and Megan while Heather ran errands
and got some much-needed fresh air and sunshine. We are all glad she has been
able to return to church and she enjoyed visiting with old friends in Sunday
School. Sunday afternoon we celebrated God's grace and mercy and Stephanie's
20th Birthday with an Open House at the Abbott's -- thank you for all that sent
their wishes. Today she buddied around as Heather ran errands for four hours
and ate lunch with the guys at Bill's fire station...and lasted, pain free.
It was a good day.
We continue to thank you for your wonderful cards,
calls, hugs, well wishes and prayers. You continue to be a blessing to us all.
