BCP I
& II, or Business Computer Programming, is a computer programming course within
the Career and Technology Department at Harlingen High School. In these courses
we teach the fundamentals of computer programming and computer science, following
both the BCP and Computer Science TEKS at TEA.
In BCP I, basic concepts
are introduced using C++, Karel++, and HTML. Traditionally, this 18-week course
is offered in the fall of each year, however, it will be offered in the Spring
in 2001-2002. Prerequistes include Algebra I, Geometry, Keyboarding ability,
and having passed the TAAS Math Exit Exam.
In BCP II we expand
the student's programming knowledge with additional C++, the AP Case Study,
more HTML, and advanced concepts in Karel++. With BCP I as a prerequisite, this
18-week course is offered in the Spring of each year. Preparation for the AP
Computer Science A exam will be begun in this class, which is also a Pre-AP
course.
Successful completion of this course fulfills the student's
technology credit for graduation. Students who particiate in either of these
courses and maintain a class rank in the top 25% are eligible to apply for membership
in the National Vocational Techinical Honor
Society (NVTHS).
