Title - V. LeVeque InfoSecurity Site

Security tips for the AS/400. These are summarized from discussions in the MIDRANGE-L  list server. These have been extensively edited. Identities of original posters have been eliminated, to prevent "Spam harvesting" of their e-mail addresses and to avoid exposing any security vulnerabilities their systems may have.

UCLA Extension 417.71 - Introduction to Information Security Concepts I designed and teach this class. The class covers a broad range of security theory and practice topics, very roughly approximating the CISSP topics. This forms the core of a Professional Designation program in Information Security.

UCLA Extension 417.86 - Vulnerability Assessment and Auditing Another class I am working up, covering the territory of information security assessment from audits to penetration tests, with hands-on examples.

Blog #1. A home-brewed script-based blog. This got to be a pain to update, so I switched to A blog hosted on blogspot    Easy to use, looks cool, even accepts comments.

Conference Presentations and articles. My conference presentations, papers, and articles from Midrange Computing Magazine , typically AS/400-related.

My Book, Information Security: A Strategic Approach, ISBN: 978-0-471-73612-7 Paperback, 272 pages, April 2006, Wiley-IEEE Computer Society Press

Develop and implement a successful information security plan by improving management practices and by establishing information security as an integral part of overall strategic planning. The book starts with an overview of basic concepts in strategic planning, information technology strategy, and information security strategy. A practical guide to defining an information security strategy is then provided, covering the "nuts and bolts" of defining long-term information security goals that effectively protect information resources.

My resume My professional life so far.

IBM iSeries and AS/400 Security A lot of links on this subject including vendors that specilize in this system, the two best books on the subject, and a lot of background information including "AS/400 for Pentesters"

I was active in a Los Angeles AS/400 user group during the early 1990s called "Focus". During that time I edited the group's newsletter then put up its first Web site. In bored moments, I would write computer advice columns:
