Black Billed Magpie (Pica pica)

Field Marks: A Black-billed magpie's tail is 9.5 - 12" in length.  Larger than a jay or a grackle.  The only large black and white land bird with a long wedge-shaped tail.  This bird is about 17.5 - 21.5".  It is a very aggressive boisterous bird.

Voice: A rapid cheg cheg cheg cheg.  It makes some other nasal sounds.

Where found: Costal Alaska south through West N. America to East California and Northern New Mexico and Colorado.

Texas:  Occasionally in the fall and winter straggler in the Texas Panhandle and West Texas.
