© Walter Bauer, Sugar Land, Texas Fall 1997

Field Marks: A large bright blue bird with a crest; white spots in wings and tail; dingy whitish on underparts; black "necklace."
Voice: A harsh slurring jeeah or jay; many other notes.
Where found: South Canada, East of Rockies south to Gulf States.
Texas: Resident in Panhandle and North and East Texas; west to east edge of Edwards Plateau; south to Houston and to San Antonio.   I have only seen one-two in our part of San Antonio; however, they are very prevalent in the San Antonio Medical Center.
Habitat: Woodlands, groves, towns. The nest is a bowl of twigs in tree. They lay 3-5 eggs, which are spotty.
