Birds of Texas

Field Marks: 6.5".  This is the smallest dove in North America.  It is sparrow sized but plumper.  Head and breast is distinctly scalloped.  It's tail is short and fan-shaped.

Voice: Soft repeated woo-ooo

Range: S. California east across southernmost states to Florida and north along Atlantic Coast to N. Carolina.

Texas:  This one was seen at Quinta Mazatlan that is located in McAllen, Texas (January 2008)

Habitat: Found in mostly open habitats that includes developed areas.
