Long-Billed Thrasher (Toxostoma longirostre)

Field Marks:

 

11 1/2" (robin-sized).  Head, back and the wings are dark brown.  That tail is somewhat brighter russet or a cinnamon-brown.  Its face is gray.  The underparts are whitish with long, black spots and streaks.  It's bill is entirely black.


Voice: Similar to a brown Thrasher.  Includes a low, sharp tsick!.


Where found: South Texas, e. Mexico


Texas: South Texas.  This one was seen and photographed at Quinta Mazatlan located in McAllen, Texas.  We also saw these at Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park.
