Pyrrhuloxia (Cardinalis sinuatus)

Field Marks:

 

8 3/4" (robin-sized).  Mostly gray with red-tipped crest.  Chest has red on center of chest.  Bill is dull yellow.


Voice: It's song is a series of loud, clear whistles and somewhat similar to a Northern Cardinal but shorter and thinner.


Where found: Pyrrhuloxia are residents from south-central Arizona east to s. Texas.


Texas: This one was seen and photographed at at Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park.
