Field Marks: A rather small white heron with a slender black bill, black legs except for it's feet which are yellow. Has curved plumes on it's back when breeding. It often shuffles its feet so as to stir up food. Young snowies have a yellowish stripe up back of leg and may appear yellow-legged when walking.
Voice: A low croak; in colony, a bubbling wulla-wulla-wulla.
Where found: North United States to Chile, Argentina. Partially migratory.
Texas: Wonders widely (March -November) throughout the state. Winters in reduced numbers near the coast. Breeds locally in coastal lowlands and in east and southern parts of state. Also found in extreme west Texas. This particular bird (the bird on right) was along our bayou in Sugar Land, Texas. The bird to the left is a immature white ibis.

Habitat: Marshes, swamps, bayous, rice fields, shores.

Nest: A platform of sticks in a bush or tree in swamp or an island and in a colony. Lays blue eggs (3-5).
